fh2rail presented the 2026 version of Carla at FH Aachen’s Kompetenzzentrum Mobilität, marking the public start of our new Railway Challenge season.
On 27 May 2026, fh2rail officially presented the 2026 version of Carla at FH Aachen’s Kompetenzzentrum Mobilität.
For the rollout, railway track was laid from the laboratory into the lecture hall so that Carla could make her entrance on rails. The event gave guests an opportunity to see the locomotive up close and marked the public start of our 2026 competition season.
Carla is the result of work across many different disciplines. Mechanics, electronics, control systems, software, safety systems and project management all have to work together before the locomotive can operate reliably on track.
The rollout was also an opportunity to present the development work behind Carla and the team responsible for building and operating her.
A few days later, the project received additional coverage from the Aachener Zeitung, which reported on the approximately 900-kilogram electric locomotive and the interdisciplinary student team behind it.
With the rollout complete, the next stop was the 2026 European Railway Challenge in Bad Schussenried.
